Lisbon ... The beautiful capital of Portugal ... considered as one of the most beautiful cities in the world ...

Going through its streets is part of history ... it’s making part of centuries of lives and traditions that can still be felt and breathed in the city of the seven hills.

The Lisbon experience has to start in the quarter of the Baixa Pombalina, with its geometrically crossed streets heading the giant Praça do Comercio square in front of the Tagus River.

An integral part of the visit of the city is discovering the Rossio square and its emblematic train station and it’s also getting lost in one of the typical neighbourhoods involving the natural magic of each one of them. In Lisbon, you should not miss a visit to the Cathedral, the Castelo de São Jorge or simply a walk through Alfama. Getting up in the Santa Justa elevator is time travel, because it’s a true relic of the past with more than 100 years This elevator opens the doors to the discovery of Convento do Carmo ruins. It is fundamental to discover the Chiado quarter and let yourself be enveloped by the more bohemian atmosphere of Bairro Alto.

But the Belem quarter cannot be forgotten: the place from which the navigators departed to discover a new world, keeps the memories of this glorious past. All this splendour is well portrayed in the Jerónimos Monastery whose grandeur and delicacy takes us back to the time of the Portuguese maritime adventures.

Lisbon is also modern! And it is in the Parque das Nações, that exhibited its glory by the 1998 world exhibition. There, the Oceanarium is king and invites you to visit it.

 

But no one is indifferent towards the beauty and charm of the nearby town of Sintra which, on the top of the hill stands the Moorish Castle and the Palacio da Pena that rival the Palacio Nacional de Sintra (Palacio da Vila), the Palacio Monserrate or even the enigmatic Quinta da Regaleira.

Nearby, stands the Cabo da Roca, he farewells of continental Europe. From there, there’s only the ocean ...

 

But it is imperative to stay at least one more day to discover much more that the region has to offer: the Queluz Palace, with its gardens, the Convento de Mafra (convent of Mafra) which, in its monumental construction, encloses one of the most beautiful libraries in the world, or even heading south to discover the beauties of the Setúbal Peninsula.
